Name after Dennis Stevenson, these plants occur in Michoacán, Mexico, and are formerly known as Dioon roseophylla. Reports are that one population is close to the road and seeds have made their way to the US. This species is easily distinguished when new leaves appear by the color with a brownish pink cast. Plants in habitat often hold few leaves because of harsh environmental conditions. Plants in cultivation can form attractive specimens but grow slow enough to tax the patience of most who try to grow them.
