This species is endemic to Oaxaca, Mexico where it grows in exposed areas hanging off rocky outcropping on steep slopes. The appearance is distinctively different from other Dioons but at a glance, it appears to hold characteristics of Dioon spinulosum combined with upright leaves and wool of Dioon mejiae. Plants are easy to grow and can withstand full sun, making them a superior plant for the garden. The most common question with this species is how to pronounce it. The ‘r’ is silent – zee dow skii.
