Dioon planifolium

Dioon planifolium

A newly described species from Oaxaca, Mexico, the plants are found on open slopes and make quite an impression. Leaves are bold and have a hint of blue color. Seeds were imported roughly 10 years ago, possibly only once, and few plants exist in cultivation. Formerly the plant was known as Dioon mixtecensis because it grows in the Mixtec region of Oaxaca. Now, the name planifolium describes the leaves which are flat. Leaves resemble edule however there are usually spines on the leaves.
