Ceratozamia mixeorum was described in 1997 but has remained completely unknown in collections. The populaiton is in Oaxaca, Mexico in the Sierra Mixes thus the name mixeorum. Plants live on slopes and above streams in the cloud forest. Disturbed areas have been seen with plants growing in full sun that become bleached yellow and dwarfed. It is doubtful they persist outside of the closed canopy. Features to recognize are the long cone peduncle and the shape of the stem.
