Dioon species

Currently 16 accepted names with several pending.  Species are all native to Mexico except one species found in Honduras.  Most Dioons are from Oaxaca with scattered populations in Veracruz, Chiapas, Queretero, Michoacan, Puebla, Sonora, and more.  When small Dioons are intimidating to identify and only take grandiose, distinct form as adults.  Dioons are slow growing and take time to make impressive garden specimens.  When mature most Dioons rival the mightiest of African Encephalartos.  Many Dioons are relatively new to cultivation.
