Copernicia x schaferi is a naturally occuring hybrid of two species of Copernicia that codigitate on serpentine soils in central Cuba in Camaguey.  There are two forms of Copernicia x schaferi with one looking more like Copernicia cowellii and the other more like Copernicia hospita.  Companion species are Coccothrinax macroglossa, Coccothrinax pseudorigida, dwarf Tabebeuia, Bursera, and Plumeria obtusa.
