Coccothrinax salvatoris is from the northern coast of Cuba with the main population around Neuvitas.  Further east along the coast is this locality with palms on two mogotes.  Coccothrinax salvatoris ssp. ‘Rainbow’ is an obligate limestone palm growing directly on the limestone ridge and cliff faces.  Seedlings can be seen sprouted in cracks in the rock.  From a young age the leaves have distinct markings.  In addition to the fantastic leaves the coarse fiber is remarkable.  The vegetation is sparge mainly composed of a large Agave species and Philodendron lacerum.
